Country Stars Give Mixed Reviews On Taylor’s CMA Win

November 15, 2009

This article is pretty interesting because it gives us a look at the country stars’ reaction to her big win as Entertainer of the Year. Surprisingly, some think she didn’t deserve while other, think she definitely did:

Taylor Swift’s fellow country artists continue to weigh in on the 19-year-old’s Entertainer of the Year win at Wednesday night’s CMA Awards.

Wynonna got the ball rolling even before the show aired, by telling USA Today she felt it was “too much too soon” to give Taylor the award. She later posted a message on her website which read in part: “Taylor is a beautiful, hard working young woman that deserves the success she has had and I support her as an artist and as a woman in the business.”

Another multiple CMA Award winner, Randy Travis, expressed mixed feelings about Taylor’s win, telling PEOPLE magazine, “As a writer, she is a phenomenal talent. When you look at the body of work that she has written at the age when she came into this business, it’s remarkable. It really is. But do I think that Entertainer of the Year might have been a little early? In my opinion, yes, for whatever that’s worth.”

What Taylor’s CMA Victory Means

November 15, 2009

GAC posted an article about Taylor’s win, it’s pretty long but worth the read. It talks about the controversy over her win and the records she’s broken:

Judging from the early online comments from GACTV.com readers, Taylor Swift’s four wins at the 43rd annual Country Music Association Awards will be accompanied by controversy. She won Entertainer of the Year, Female Vocalist, Album and Music Video, setting records as the first teen victor in each category and ending streaks of three-year reigns for Kenny Chesney and Carrie Underwood.

Taylor is not a traditional artist in any sense of the word — not in sound, not in age and not in the demographic she appeals to. So when her band and record company president, Scott Borchetta, gave her a group hug at the end of the evening, it was a physical manifestation of the embrace she got at the ballot box from the country business.

Taylor Shares Kenny Chesney’s Reaction

November 13, 2009

Finally! Taylor revealed to CMT Insider what Kenny Chesney whispered in her ear when she won Entertainer of The Year:

In an interview with CMT Insider, Taylor Swift shared Kenny Chesney’s congratulatory comments immediately after she was named entertainer of the year award at Wednesday’s (Nov. 11) CMA Awards in Nashville.

“He just said, ‘I’m so proud of you and I love you so much,’” she recalled. “We were texting earlier, and we were saying that same thing, like, ‘No matter what happens tonight, I love you so much.’ And it was just like I really, really love Kenny a lot. All the other people in the category with me have taken me out on tour as their opening act. Every one of them — Keith, Brad, George, Kenny — all of them. And so those are people that I’ve looked up to and just held up in my head as these heroes, and they’re always going to that for me.”

Swift also said she was holding her breath during the announcement and that winning the night’s top award was “the most crazy, unexpected thing.”

CMT Insider airs Saturday (Nov. 14) at 1 p.m. ET/PT.
